Manager – Middle Office (Project Management) – Financial Operations
D. E. Shaw
D. E. Shaw
The D. E. Shaw group seeks a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join its growing Middle Office function in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, or Gurugram, India. This team supports the lifecycle of the firm's global trading strategies and serves as a key link between the front office and operational teams. This project-focused role offers the opportunity to lead middle office projects that strengthen the firm's ability to support a growing and increasingly complex book of investment strategies, while retaining hands-on operational ownership. This position will initially be an individual contributor role, with the potential to assume people management responsibilities in the future based on business needs and the candidate's interest.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will lead and deliver middle office projects that strengthen the firm's ability to support a growing and increasingly complex book of investment strategies. You will act as a project manager across internal and external teams—scoping requirements, driving solutioning, coordinating testing, and owning sign-off on product roadmaps. You will partner with trading desks, technology, operations, and vendors to convert operational pain points into durable solutions that reduce risk and manual effort. You will manually handle exceptions and edge cases that fall outside automated workflows, resolving them accurately and feeding insights back into process improvements. You will work across the full trade lifecycle and a range of hedge fund asset classes, designing corner cases and defining exception handling for post-automation workflows. You will also build workflows, dashboards, and tooling that give the desk and management clear visibility into trading activity, operational health, and risk.
Who we're looking for:
Basic Qualifications:
A postgraduate degree and 5+ years of relevant experience across the trade lifecycle, including time in or alongside middle office functions
A robust understanding of trade lifecycle operations—trade capture, P&L, security master, settlements, and corporate actions—and of how various hedge fund asset classes behave across their lifecycle
Demonstrated experience managing projects end-to-end as a project manager across internal and external teams, including scoping, testing, sign-off, and stakeholder coordination
A risk-first mindset, with the judgment to anticipate corner cases and design exception handling for post-automation workflows
Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to senior management, stakeholders, front office, and vendors
The ability to design or contribute to dashboards, workflows, and analytics that surface operational insight
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with automation and hands-on familiarity with emerging GenAI and LLM tooling, with the ability to identify and apply these pragmatically within middle office workflows
Program management–related academic qualifications (e.g., MBA, PMP)
